Our story began two years ago, when we first started to seriously think about international adoption. We attended seminars, reviewed finances, and made plans. On September 5th, 2008 (the day Maelyn was born), we officially signed up for our adoption journey.
The next year would be a blur of mountains of paperwork, meetings, hoping and praying for a child that we knew was destined to be a part of our family. After months and months of waiting, we finally received the news that we had a little girl! We were thrilled beyond belief.
Ling Wan Hao was born September 5th, 2008 and is now 20 months old. She has a cleft lip and palate. Her lip has undergone one revision in China -- the palate and further revisions to follow later this year. We named our little girl Maelyn Elizabeth Wanhao Green and we are very excited to be able to meet her very soon!
Once we received the news that we had a little girl we began preparing for her arrival. We painted her room, deocrated and made things just right for her. We stocked her closet and drawers -- so much fun! Friends showered her with gifts and good wishes.
On April 8th we received the news that we would travelling to China shortly to meet Maelyn. It was the news we had been waiting for! Currently, our itinerary is as follows:
- June 17th - leave for China and fly directly to Beijing
- June 20th - fly to Jiangxi to meet our little girl (Father's Day!)
- June 24th (approx.) - fly back to Beijing for some sight-seeing with the rest of our travel group
- July 1st - fly home!! (Canada Day)
